The Week Ahead in Smyrna-Vinings
Summer's lazy days are here, but the week's agenda is a full one for Smyrna-Vinings.

Government: Smyrna City Council meets Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. shows that Council will vote on an eight percent water rate increase that would take effect July 1. Smyrna residents can sound off on this and other items in the FY 2013 budget during a second public hearing at the meeting.
It’s not too late to register for Cobb County’s Regional Transportation Referendum Wireside Chat with Chairman Tim Lee and Kennesaw Mayor Mark Matthews. Lee and Matthews will give an overview of the referendum and then open the line to questions. Register online or call 404.463.3227. The Cobb County chat is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, Ward 5 City Council Representative Susan Wilkinson and other city officials will hold an informational meeting for Cheney Woods neighborhood residents regarding the expansion of Oxford Academy and its possible impact on traffic. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the .

In Business: Both the and the Smyrna Business Association will honor small business this week. The Cobb Chamber of Commerce will name its small business of the year at it First Monday Breakfast, June 4 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Tickets are still available at the door, $60 for non-members and $45 for members.
The Chamber will also recognize its top 25 business of the year at the breakfast. Three Smyrna businesses were recognized as some of Cobb’s top 25 businesses earlier this year: The Service Fort, Blue Wave Computing and Innovative Marketing and Design.

Smyrna Business Association will name Smyrna’s Businessperson of the Year at its monthly luncheon Tuesday. Lunch begins at noon at the Smyrna Community Center. Members can RSVP online and the cost is $12. Non-members pay $20 at the door.
On Friday the Chamber will hold its Cobb Executive Women’s Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Cobb Chamber’s Chief Operating Officer Demming Bass will discuss Cobb Competitive EDGE program. Registration can be completed online through Thursday, June 7 at noon.
