Wife, Children Of Prominent Housing Exec Dead In Murder Suicide

Police say the ex-wife of Dr. Christopher Edwards shot and killed her two children in Vinings, then turned the gun on herself.

SMYRNA, GA — Police have identified the three victims of an apparent murder-suicide who were found inside a Vinings townhome. According to police, Marsha Edwards, 58, shot and killed her two children, Erin Edwards, 20, and Chris Edwards, 24, before turning the gun on herself.

Edwards is the ex-wife of Dr. Christopher Edwards, chairman of Atlanta Housing's board of directors.

The bodies were found when police were called to the 3200 block of Nobility Way to conduct a welfare check, and found the victims inside.

According to Atlanta Housing's website, Dr. Christopher Edwards is an Atlanta-based orthopedic surgeon who specializes in adult spinal disorders. A graduate of Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine, he completed his internship and residency at Tulane University.

Edwards is a former president of the Georgia Physicians Association, a former vice president of the Grady Hospital Board of Trustees and a former chair of the United Way of Greater Atlanta Health Committee. Currently, he serves as a member of the board of trustees of the Morehouse School of Medicine and is the chief medical officer for AWC Networks, LLC, a company that provides health-related technology and cost-containment services.
