Smryna’s seven and eight-year-old All-Star Little League knows it’s won the District 2 Championship even before tonight’s first at-bat. That’s because both teams competing in the final tournament game are from Smyrna.
Smyrna Red and Smyrna Blue will compete for the District 2 Title tonight at Hawkins Field at 7 p.m. Parking is available on Legion Drive behind on Concord Road.
Little Little League’s District 2 consists of five different parks and each park can enter as many teams as they’d like in the tournament, said Elaine Isley, Smyrna’s Little League president.

“They play pool games and they put all the teams down and they divide them into pools and they play,” she said. “Each team comes out of their pool and comes in a semifinal bracket play and they both won their bracket games.”
Isley said Smyrna Little League hasn’t won a District 2 Flag since 2006, so the entire league is proud to know they’ve won the title this year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t mixed emotions.

“Of course the red team wants to beat the blue team and the blue team wants to beat the red team, but the greatest thing about all this is five minutes after the game is over they’ll be out on the field playing another game with each other best friends again,” she said. “It’s bittersweet because obviously we know Smyrna’s going to bring home a district flag, but I hate that one of our teams has to lose.”
Isley said parents are going “full-blown spirit crazy.” Isley hasn’t escaped the infectious spirit either. She promised both teams she’d color half her hair red and half blue to show her support.
“I just hope it washes out!” she said.
The team that wins tonight's game will advance to the Northwest Georgia Tournament on June 16.
