Here are the top three stories today in and around Smyrna-Vinings:
- On Thursday, a woman fatally shot a man in Smyrna in an act of self-defense as he broke into her home. Smyrna police responded to a call of a person shot at Alder Park Apartments, where they found a man shot to death in the woman's apartment. The woman said she heard banging on her door, followed by banging on the kitchen window until it shattered; the man then climbed in through the window after being yelled at to stop. According to police, there will be no charges filed as this was an act of self-defense; it appears the two did not know each other. (WSB Atlanta)
- Six Flags White Water has 700 open positions it is hoping to fill by the season's opening date of May 6. Of the 700 open positions, the park hopes to hire 250 lifeguards as part of the Aquatics Team. No prior training or experience is needed as all the training and certifications will be paid for and provided by Six Flags. Being a team member comes with many benefits for both the employee and their friends and family; applicants must be 16 or older. (WSB Radio)
- A local man lost his life in an overnight fishing trip early Friday morning in west Georgia. Atlanta resident Reginald Keith Crane and his two friends launched their boat around 9 p.m. Thursday night on West Point Lake and tied the boat under a bridge to fish. Around 6 a.m., Crane fell into the lake and went under the boat; the two men were able to pull him from the water but he was unconscious. The two men performed CPR while awaiting emergency responders to come, and despite everyone's efforts, Crane was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. (WSB Atlanta)
