DeKalb Schools To Go Virtual During Election Runoff

The virtual learning day is only scheduled for Dec. 6, the day of the U.S. Senate runoff.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — Schools in DeKalb County will have a virtual learning day on Dec. 6 due to the U.S. Senate runoff election in Georgia, according to school officials in a news release Saturday.

The runoff is between incumbent Rev. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, and his challenger, Herschel Walker.

Officials said the virtual learning day is due to several schools serving as polling places.

“We view voting as a fundamental right for citizens,” Dr. Vasanne S. Tinsley, interim superintendent, said in the release. “As we did during the midterm elections (on Nov. 8), we want to continue to do our part to ensure safe, secure and easily accessible locations for voters who choose to exercise this right.”

According to the school system, officials will release more details with families in coming weeks.
