Man Found Burned Dies By Suicide Atop Stone Mountain: Reports

A hiker found the burnt body in an area not normally visited by Stone Mountain Park guests, police told media outlets.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — A man found burned to death Saturday atop Stone Mountain died by suicide, authorities told media outlets.

The body was located early morning by a hiker, Stone Mountain Park Police spokesperson John Bankhead told WAGA-TV and The Associated Press.

The man, who was in his 20s, left a note detailing a time and location for the planned suicide, both outlets reported. Authorities said they would not identify him by name.

Bankhead told WAGA the body was found in an area not normally visited by park guests.

"I've seen nothing like it, and I don't recall something like this ever happening at the park," Bankhead said in the WAGA report.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the probe in the case.
