My "Country Boy" Dad-A Father's Day Story
I Miss The Laughter, Good Stories, Fishing Trips and Great Steaks From The Grill

On this Father's Day, my heart swells with gratitude for Dad, and for all the fathers who shaped our lives with their strength, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Dad proudly called himself a "Country Boy," and in many ways, he embodied the best of that spirit: grounded, hardworking, and deeply connected to simple truths. But he was so much more. His was a life defined by resilience, a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome. He navigated the harsh realities of the Great Depression, faced the perils of World War II, and confronted every obstacle with a quiet determination.

He was a man who knew the value of work and the sweet taste of success earned through dedication. He, in partnership with my mother, built a beautiful family, raising three children with a commitment that never wavered. As a foot soldier under Patton in Europe, he served with courage, earning the Bronze Star. He never mentioned it.
Later, he traded the battlefield for the banking world, rising from a teller to the second in command of a respected institution – a remarkable journey driven by his intelligence and tireless effort. At the end, he truly "wore out" peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and achievement.

Beyond his accomplishments, Dad was a man who embraced life with a joyful spirit. He loved good conversation, the savory delight of a tenderloin steak and shrimp cocktail, and the peaceful pursuit of a game of golf. The soulful sounds of Gospel music brought him comfort, and the humor of Lewis Grizzard and Jerry Clower never failed to bring a smile to his face. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, evident in his active church involvement and the values he instilled in his family.
I carry so many precious memories of his lessons. He taught me the art of fishing, from the thrill of the catch to the practical skills of baiting a hook, along with the importance of proper cleaning and cooking. He was a man who understood the balance between frugality and generosity, always prioritizing what truly mattered, especially the education of his children.
Dad taught me to respect everyone. No exceptions.
On Father's Day, I will visit his grave, lay fresh flowers, and offer a prayer of profound thanks for his sacrifices, his enduring love, and the indelible mark he left on my life. He remains my hero.
The fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who guided, supported, and loved us deserve our deepest gratitude. Their legacy is eternal.
Happy Father's Day!
