Officer, 2 Kids Injured In 3-Car Pileup In DeKalb
A driver trying to pass traffic in the middle of the road hit two cars, one of them being a DeKalb County patrol car, police say.
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — A DeKalb County officer and two children were among six people injured in a three-vehicle crash Saturday at East Ponce de Leon Avenue.
DeKalb County Police on Monday said the pileup happened around 7:15 a.m. between Rays and Hambrick roads.
The Stone Mountain driver of a 2011 Lexus RX was accused of trying to pass another vehicle by crossing a double yellow line while heading eastbound.

Witnesses told officers the Lexus was excessively speeding in the middle of the road, according to a crash report.
Contributing factors for the crash were following too closely and improper passing, according to the report.

The injured officer, who was going westbound on East Ponce near Orchard Park Drive, said she saw the Lexus hit the back of a Toyota Camry before hitting her police car head-on, according to the report.
Two child passengers and the officer who suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries were taken to hospitals, police said.
Everyone who were injured in the crash were in stable condition, police said.
