STONE MOUNTAIN-LITHONIA, GA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Juanita Love, who nominated Braxton, of Stone Mountain-Lithonia.

How do you know the star local student?

He’s my nephew.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

He’s a standout student, a pretty good athlete and person who had deep compassion for humanity. He’s volunteered in clean-up efforts in DeKalb County, organized a sign language club so the one deaf student could interact with fellow classmates without the aid of an interpreter, taken on leadership roles on both cross country and tennis teams and have volunteered for voter registration drives.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

He embodies what we want the next generation to be about. He’s caring and compassionate but also studious and dedicated. When he makes a commitment, he follows through.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Braxton!
