Aurora Police Officer Dies Of COVID-19 Complications
Officer Brian Shields died Tuesday morning at age 51. "Brian's memory will live on forever at APD," officials said in an announcement.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora police officer of more than 16 years, Brian Shields has died of COVID-19 complications Tuesday morning, the department announced.
In an announcement on Facebook Wednesday evening, police officials said Shields's "memory will live on forever." According to the post, the officer contracted the virus while serving the Aurora community.
"Our condolences and prayers go out to Brian’s family, his friends, and to all those he served with during his more than 16 years as an officer with the Aurora Police Department," officials wrote. "Our police department family will do everything possible to provide support and comfort to Brian’s family. Brian’s memory will live on forever at APD."

Details about the police officer's memorial and funeral will be announced at a later time, officials said.
"Our entire department is mourning with the Shields family," the message reads. "Please keep his family and our APD family in your thoughts and prayers."
