Aurora Snow Team Continues Plowing 36 Routes After Recent Snow Storm

Crews will salt residential roads Monday to get them to bare pavement as temperatures are expected to get above 32 degrees, officials said.

AURORA, IL — The full Aurora Snow Team continues to clear snow from all 36 routes after a winter storm rolled into the area late Thursday night and into the overnight hours.

City officials said in an update at 7:45 a.m. that the full team was dispatched last night. While crews continue clearing Aurora roadways, drivers should expect slippery spots on primary roads due to snow, sleet, blowing wind and cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday for the entire Chicagoland area as another snowstorm was expected to result in possible accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with isolated totals of up to 4 inches, Patch reported.

With the snow accumulation, residents should also remember to move their cars from city streets, officials said. The snow parking ordinance prohibits parking during or after a snowfall of at least 2 inches.

Contractors have also been called in to help by plowing residential roads completely. Officials warned of snow packs on these roads.

With all the snow Aurora has been seeing in the last week, the city provided a list of reminders to help keep residents safe:

  • If you must drive, be extra cautious, reduce speed and put distance between yourself and other drivers.
  • Stay a minimum of 75 feet behind snowplows and never attempt to pass them.
  • Do not shovel snow into the street when clearing driveways.
  • Help keep fire hydrants cleared of snow so they can be accessed quickly in an emergency.
  • Do not leave running vehicles unattended, whether locked or unlocked.
