AURORA, IL — Cold temperatures are propelling Illinoisans into the new week, leading to Aurora opening its temporary warming center on Monday night.

The city activates its overnight warming center depending on temperature thresholds. Sub-zero wind chills are expected Monday and Tuesday, with wind chills of 0 to 10 below zero on Monday morning, and again late Monday into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The high on Tuesday is 16 and 23 on Wednesday.

The Wesley United Methodist Church, at 14 N. May St., will open as a warming center from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday night into Tuesday morning and again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Each evening, staff will provide guests with a cot, snacks and water. Security will also be on-site at all times.

Guests should use the entrance located through the courtyard that faces New York Street. The door can be seen under a ramp.
