AURORA, IL — The mayoral race in Aurora was hotly watched Tuesday night as challenger John Laesch overcame incumbent Mayor Richard Irvin. But voters also cast their ballots for City Council representatives.

Voters predominantly reelected incumbents for alderperson except in the alderman-at-large race, where challenger Keith Larson came on top with 58.05 percent of the vote to incumbent Ron Woerman's 41.95 percent, according to unofficial results from Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties.

Larson is a political ally of John Laesch, who appears to have won the mayoral race, beating two-time incumbent Richard Irvin. The two plan to push for ethics reform to limit the influence of special interests in campaign donations, Larson said, according to the Chicago Tribune.
