Abandoned Home Reports Sought By Alderman

CHICAGO — 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea asked neighborhood residents in an email this week to report any "problem homes" they know of in Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park. The alderman hopes to use the reports, which can be made anonymously, to report to the city of Chicago and address any code violations that may be apparent.

"Vacant homes can often be a catalyst for criminal activity," O'Shea said.

The alderman said he will need the exact address of the property and as much information about the property's state as possible. Problems in the yard of the home, such as excessive plant growth and accumulation of debris, are also sought.
