Firefighters Battling Brush Fire At Mount Hope Cemetery

Smoke is still billowing at Mount Hope Cemetery, 11500 S Fairfield Avenue, as firefighters work to keep a brush fire under control.

The Merrionette Park Fire Department responded to the blaze around 2 a.m. A small portion is the cemetery was affected and crews are still on the scene.

The fire was concentrated in the south portion of the cemetery in a fairly wooded area with what appears to be a large pile of wood and brush still smoking. 

A fire department representative was not available to comment.
