Smith Village Support Group Focuses On Self-Care For Caregivers

Caregivers of persons with dementia will learn self-care strategies for maintaining their own well-being Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Smith Village.

CHICAGO Why is being a healthy caregiver essential for providing the best care for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease? Caregivers can gain insights into the rationale for relatives and friends to take care of themselves and how to adopt some new practices and behaviors during Smith Village’s Caregiver Support Group beginning at 6:30pm on Tuesday, Feb.18, at 2320 West 113th Place, Chicago.

“Caregiving is demanding. So, it’s crucial to stay strong physically and emotionally to be effective in our roles,” said Alice Keane, a Smith Village resident trained by the Alzheimer’s Association. “Taking care of yourself ensures that you can better care for others.”

It’s easy for caregivers to put caring for themselves second in their struggles to care for a loved one or friend with dementia.
