Hinsdale South Announces Show Dates for Musical

'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' to run Sept. 24-26

Hinsdale South High School has announced the show dates and times for its fall musical “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” by Joe DiPietro with music by Jimmy Roberts. The show will run at 7 p.m. on September 24 through September 26 in the Hinsdale South auditorium. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. The ticket office opens an hour before show time.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is the second-longest running Off Broadway musical, premiering in August 1996 and closing in July 2008, after over 5,000 performances. Nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award as Outstanding Off Broadway musical in 1997, the show presents the central theme of love and relationships through a series of vignettes.

Hinsdale South Theater Director Danny Yuska says he chose the show because the ensemble production gives the spotlight to each of the actors, all of whom will have musical solos and individual lines. He said it also gives the tech crew a wide array of opportunities behind the scenes and the chance to be creative.

“I feel like this is a show everyone would enjoy and could relate to,” said Mr. Yuska. “The music is fun and light hearted, but there are a few moments of sincerity that will make me shed some tears. It is a show that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions and it guarantees laughter.”

Mr. Yuska noted some challenges in working on the show which is earlier in the fall than previous years.

“The challenge thus far has been putting on a show in such a short amount of time,” he said. “Another challenge has been the rehearsal process and giving each scene its necessary attention. This technical show has a huge set, a lot of costumes and heavy lighting. All of our actors will play several different characters, which means a lot of costume, hair and make-up changes. Overall though, I have enjoyed watching our production staff adapt this musical into our own.

Mr. Yuska went on to describe the show, “With few exceptions, the scenes stand independent of the others, but progress in a fashion designed to suggest an overall arc to relationships throughout the course of one’s life. A first date, for example, comes before scenes dealing with marriage, and scenes dealing with marriage come before those dealing with child rearing. Despite the large number of characters, the show is typically done with a comparatively small cast: the original Off Broadway production uses a cast of four. Hinsdale South’s production has 26 actors, 3 pit members, and over 30 technicians.”

This show is rated PG-13 and may not be suitable for kids under 13.
