Firefighter/Paramedic Charged with Possession of Child Porn

Bail was set at $300,000 for Peter Woitovich of Downers Grove.

Downers Grove, IL - A contract firefighter/paramedic has been charged with five counts of possession of child pornography, a class 2 felony.

Bail has been set at $300,000 for Peter Woitovich, 25 of the 5700 block of S. Walnut Avenue in Downers Grove, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.

Woitovich is not an employee of the Village of Downers Grove Fire Department. The Chicago Sun-Times reports he once worked with the Naperville Fire Department.

DuPage County Sheriff’s Office’s Sexual Predator Electronic Exploitation Division authorities tracked a computer in DuPage County that allegedly contained child pornography. The investigation led detectives Woitovich, the state’s attorney’s office reported.

A search warrant was used Feb. 11 to uncover child porn images at Woitovich’s home. Woitovich was arrested.

Woitovich’s next court date is set for Feb. 22. If Woitovich is able to post bond, he is not to have contact with children under 18 years old and he can’t have computer or Internet access, the state’s attorney’s office reported.

“Child pornography is not a victimless crime,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin in a statement. “Year after year, hundreds of thousands of images are downloaded and shared over the internet with each image representing yet another innocent, young victim of child pornography. To protect these innocent victims, my office stands ready to vigorously prosecute any allegations of child pornography.”

“Today’s arrest shows the dedication and commitment of our Office in the fight against child pornography,” said DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba in a statement. “The Detectives assigned to our Sexual Predator Electronic Exploitation Division (S.P.E.E.D) dedicate themselves every day to prevent the victimization of our children.”
