Downers Grove Home Badly Damaged During Fire; No Injuries Reported

A home in the 4400 block of Pershing Avenue sustained about $175,000 in damages after a fire broke out on the upper level around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

No one was injured in a fire that caused extensive damage to a Downers Grove home Wednesday night, officials said.

The fire broke out just before 4:20 p.m. in the upper level of a house in the 4400 block of Pershing Avenue, according to Downers Grove Fire Department spokesperson Marsha Geisler.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames, but were able to ventilate the roof and quickly suppress fire growth, Geisler said.

No injuries were reported, but the family has been temporarily displaced due to the extensive damage to the structure, Geisler said. Damages are reported to be approximately $175,000.

The Downers Grove Fire Department was assisted by five neighboring departments, including Westmont.
