'Shop and Save' Grocery Store to Open in Downers Grove

Shop and Save Market will hold its grand opening celebration Friday at 7241 Lemont Road.

A new grocery store will open its doors Friday in Downers Grove.

Shop and Save Market will celebrate its grand opening at 7241 Lemont Road, the former location of Michael's Fresh Market and Dominick's. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The 45,000-square-foot Downers Grove store is the sixth Shop and Save location in the Chicago area; other stores are located in Niles, Des Plaines, Schaumburg, Bridgeview and Chicago.

The chain offers a large variety of goods, including unique European
imports, a full-service bakery, more than 550 fresh produce items, and an in-store food court that serves  lunch and dinner.

True to its owners' Polish heritage, the store will feature a European-style deli, offering a complete variety of deli cuts, many of them home-smoked. In addition, it will feature many natural, soy, gluten and nitrate-free deli choices for the health-conscious, as well as a variety of kosher items.

“This is a very special store, for all of us” store director Ed Dubek said in a press release. “We are putting a lot of thought in tailoring our (offerings) in a way that will resonate with the community. Exceeding expectations is our goal and we are ready to take it on."
