Traffic Alert: Washington Street Closed at Curtiss Street April 29-30

Significant traffic delays are expected in the area Monday and Tuesday as work continues on the Washington Street water main/road work project.

Construction at Washington and Curtiss streets near downtown Downers Grove is expected to cause significant traffic delays Monday and Tuesday.

Washington Street will be closed at the Curtiss Street intersection April 29-30 as work continues on water main and road improvements, officials said.

The road will be reopened each evening once construction ends for the day. Detour plans for Washington Street will allow westbound traffic on Curtiss Street to make a right turn only at Washington.

Work began on the Washington Street project April 15. The project includes the replacement of 1,485 feet of water main and 910 feet of storm sewer, the reconstruction of five sanitary manholes and failed curb and gutter sections, asphalt patching, road resurfacing, striping, intermittent sidewalk replacement, and the installation of curb extensions at the intersection of Washington and Curtiss streets.

Village officials said the infrastructure upgrades will provide for the improved and more cost-effective delivery of water and sanitary services, as well as improved drainage.
