Elgin Man Charged After Threatening Employee With Weapon: Police

Police said the man threatened an employee after being asked to leave a business for unruly behavior.

ELGIN, IL — The Elgin Police Department said officers responded to a business in the 200 block of Douglas Avenue Feb. 23 regarding a person who confronted an employee in the parking lot with a handgun. Police said the person, later identified as 23-year-old Cristian Navarez, of the 200 block of Center Street, Elgin, threatened the employee with a weapon after being asked to leave due to unruly behavior. According to police, Navarez left in his vehicle, before it was located by officers at another business in the 100 block of Kimball Street.

Police said when officers made contact with Navarez, they found a loaded handgun on him, and an air soft pistol was found in his vehicle, which they said was the weapon he used to threaten the employee.

“Due to the cooperation from those at the scene of the incident, officers were able to quickly locate and apprehend Mr. Navarez before anyone was hurt, and we were able to remove a gun from Elgin’s streets,” said Elgin Police Department Chief Ana Lalley

Navarez was taken into custody and charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one count of aggravate assault and one count of resisting/obstructing a police officer. Police said these charges were authorized by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Police said Navarez's bail was set at Kane County Bond Court at $10,000, 10 percent to apply, and that he is currently being held at the Kane County Jail.
