GENEVA, IL — A Geneva man is accused of attempting to murder a woman during a domestic dispute just after midnight Thursday, police said.

Geneva officers were dispatched at 12:28 a.m. to Justin Gallo's residence in the 300 block of Division Street after a woman called to report that she was attacked by the 42-year-old. When police arrived, they found her with multiple abrasions and bruising on her face, a laceration on her left arm and struggling to walk on her own, according to a news release.

The victim told police that she had passed out after Gallo sat on her chest while covering her mouth and nose. He had also repeatedly thrown her on the bed and held her down, she said, according to police.

Once she regained consciousness, the man continued attacking her by covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming for help. The woman attempted to leave several times, but Gallo physically stopped her and took her phone, according to police.

Officials said she eventually broke free, took her phone back and called 911. Geneva paramedics took the woman, who had several broken bones, to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital.

Gallo was treated for minor injuries at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Wheaton and was arrested after he was released from the hospital.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office authorized multiple charges against Gallo. He faces several felonies, including attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated domestic battery — one for strangulation and one for causing great bodily harm — and unlawful restraint. He was also charged with misdemeanor domestic battery charges, violation of an order of protection, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.
