Aurora Man Dies After Veering Off Road In Geneva, Police Say

The man, 31, was killed after being ejected from the car. The airbags did deploy, but officials said the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

GENEVA, IL — An Aurora man, 31, died early Sunday after he was ejected from his truck after a single-car crash, Geneva police said.

Carlos Diaz Jr. was pronounced dead near the intersection of Route 25 and Fabyan Parkway, where his car crashed just before 5 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

Geneva and Batavia police, as well as Batavia Fire Department personnel, responded to the crash, which was initially discovered at 4:54 a.m. A preliminary investigation indicated a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling west on Fabyan Parkway when it veered across eastbound lanes and went off the roadway before the foot of the Fox River bridge, officials said.

Diaz was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said the truck's airbags did deploy, but Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers in the truck.

The Fabyan Parkway bridge was closed until 9 a.m. while the Geneva Police Department, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Coroner’s Office investigated the crash. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneva Emergency Management Agency assisted on the scene.

The Kane County Coroner's Office is slated to perform an autopsy.
