Gas Main Breaks Near Route 31 Underpass In Geneva: City
Construction crews were working on the Union Pacific Third Main Line project when they inadvertently hit a gas main, city officials said.

GENEVA, IL — A gas main broke Tuesday morning south of the Route 31 underpass, prompting the Geneva Fire Department to evacuate several businesses as a precaution.
Construction crews were working on the Union Pacific Third Main Line project when they inadvertently hit a gas main around 9:30 a.m., city officials said.
Evacuations were necessary at businesses along Route 31 south of the underpass. They were not needed north of the train tracks and at the Kane County Government Center as of 10:20 a.m. Firefighters continue to monitor natural gas levels, officials said.

Union Pacific halted trains in the area as a precaution, so city officials suggested riders check with Metra's website for any possible delays.
As of 10:32 a.m., Nicor crews were making their way to the scene to begin repairs, which could take several hours, officials said. Locals are asked to keep their distance from the area as a result.
