GENEVA, IL — Creative Sewing & Quilting, a family-owned business operating in Geneva since 2008, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in May. The festivities kicked off Tuesday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a storewide 25 percent discount.

Originally based in Sandwich, Illinois, Lisa Flyte and her late husband, Joe, originally bought the business on May 2, 1997. The two worked together until Joe died in 2015, after which the second generation of Flytes joined the family business, according to a news release from the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. Two of Lisa's sons, Eric and Grant, work on maintenance and repairs, while her daughter-in-law Sarah manages the website and marketing.

Before landing in Geneva's historic downtown, at 11 N. First Street, the business had locations in St. Charles, Sycamore and Warrenville. The now singular location features an extensive fabric selection, a wide range of sewing machines, and personnel to offer expert instruction and advice. Creative Sewing & Quilting also offers classes and events to teach customers new skills and help them master their sewing machines.

"I have been privileged to work in a business that is happy," Lisa said in a statement. "It’s a hobby business, so people that come here are happy to be doing what they love. I have loved making connections with the amazing men and women who walk through that door — many of whom become great friends."

In celebration of the quarter-decade anniversary, the Geneva shop will be offering special sales, demonstrations and events throughout May.
