Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles police departments will collaborate to host a week-long enforcement campaign ahead of Memorial Day.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Police departments from Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles are teaming up to enforce traffic safety over Memorial Day weekend, officials announced Friday.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27. The week-long campaign started Monday and will run through the night of the observed holiday.

"The goal of this initiative is to reduce traffic crashes and ensure everyone travels safely, so we can all enjoy the week leading up to the unofficial start of summer," police said.

Through the campaign, officers hope to reduce crashes, educate drivers and enforce traffic laws related to speed, distracted driving, seat belts, Scott's Law and driving under the influence.

Police will focus their efforts on heavily traveled roads, including Randall Road, Route 31, Route 25 and Kirk Road. But each agency will implement a plan based on the individual needs of their communities, according to a news release.
