GLEN ELLYN, IL — Speedskater and Glen Ellyn native Ethan Cepuran is set to compete in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Cepuran, 25, qualified during the mass start event, finishing in second place with a time of 7:58.10.

This will be Cepuran's second time competing in the Olympic Games. In 2022, he won a bronze medal in Beijing in the men's eight-lap team pursuit, according to his Team U.S.A. profile.

Cepuran first took to the ice rink at age 2, his profile states. His accolades include earning gold in team pursuit at the 2025 World Championships in the eight-lap team pursuit race, setting a new world record. Cepuran also competed in the World Championships in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The opening ceremony for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games is set for Feb. 6 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The men's team pursuit speedskating quarterfinals will be held Feb. 15, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for Feb. 17.
