MomsTalk: Restaurant Screams

What do you do when you are out for dinner, and your child starts screaming?

Q: How do you deal with restaurant tantrums?

If you are out for dinner somewhere, and your child has an unexpected yet full blown meltdown, what do you do? Are you out the door in a minute with your child under your arm, headed straight for the car? Or do you try the distract-and-reason routine, talking it out over a toy pulled out of your purse as you desperately shhhh your child?

If the screaming kid is one table over, what do you do? What if you haven't been out to dinner for weeks?  Do you ask to be seated elsewhere? Do you leave? Or are you patient, remembering the days when your own kids acted that way? Do you get the restaurant manager involved? Should there be a children's section (or a quiet section) at restaurants?
