Professional Figure Skaters, Shoot-The-Puck Contest: Skate In The Park Is This Weekend (patch.com) — Grayslake residents can lace up for a free Skate in the Park event this Saturday at Gelatin Park, featuring professional figure skating, open skating, and a shoot-the-puck contest. Families can also warm up by a bonfire with hot chocolate and s’mores while enjoying the community atmosphere. 
2. Man charged after theft of high-value sports cards during grand opening near Grayslake (audacy.com) — A Grayslake resident is facing a felony retail theft charge after sports cards worth more than $4,300 were taken and later returned to a new card shop just west of town in Third Lake. Authorities say social media images helped identify the suspect, who admitted involvement and was released under conditions while awaiting a Jan. 28 court date.
3. Grayslake woman caught selling guns, large quantity of cocaine through social media following undercover sting (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Law enforcement say a 35-year-old Grayslake resident is jailed without bond after multiple undercover buys of cocaine and firearms were allegedly made from her home on Pheasant Run Court last fall. Prosecutors accuse her of using social media to arrange several sizable drug and gun sales across Lake County, and a judge has ordered her held pending a preliminary hearing on January 13.

Basketball roundup: Hersey girls take sole possession of MSL West lead; Libertyville boys drop first NSC game (dailyherald.com) — Grayslake hoops fans have plenty to cheer about after strong showings from both local high school teams. Grayslake Central’s girls stayed unbeaten in conference play behind a big scoring night, while Grayslake North’s girls rolled to a lopsided win, all amid a busy slate of suburban basketball action for area schools.
5. Gurnee firefighters rescue 2 cats, quickly extinguish fire in basement of Gages Lake home (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Emergency crews from Gurnee and the Grayslake Fire Protection District quickly knocked down a basement fire at a Gages Lake home, keeping the house livable and everyone safe. Four residents escaped on their own, and firefighters even rescued two cats from a basement window. The cause of the Sunday night blaze remains under investigation.
