Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Grayslake Patch gives you ideas for summer camps.

Patch has pulled together some ideas for you to consider in searching out Summer Camps for your children. The Grayslake Park District offers 16 pages of various camps in their 2011 Spring & Summer Camps brochure. We have highlighted just a few here, plus a couple from other areas.

1. Terrific 2 Be 2 Camp

The youngest campers will enjoyg circle time, stories and singing new songs. Classes run for 90 minutes twice a week. The first week available is June 13. The camp is offered through the . Call 847-223-7529.

2. Full Day Sports Camp

Sports Camp is designed for the child who wants to go, go, go in a variety of activities. Campers will learn the rules and strategies of playing basketball, flag football, softball/baseball, dodge ball, swimming, fitness and more. Class lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, beginning the week of June 13. The camp is offered through the . Call 847-223-7529.

3. Zip Zap Zing Character Camp: Summer of Suess

Green eggs and ham, anyone? Have a cat in the hat? Then join the ZZZ's production process for young performers whether is it your child's first time on stage or they are an experienced pro. The cam meets from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Campers age 4 - 12 years can attend one or both sessions: Whosits, Whatsits & Wheresits begins on June 14, and  Thinky Things begins on July 12. Students will undoubtedly have fun learning the tricks and tips of being in the theatre. The contractual class is run through the . Call 847-223-7529.

4.     Improv Play House Summer Performing Arts Camps

Improv Play House has been offering summer arts camps since 2000. Campers can select from a range of activities such as acting, drama, filmmaking, improv comedy, musical theatre, fashion and print modeling.

5.      Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois

The Girl Scouts offer a sleep-away camp option for young girls from throughout the area. Camp McCormick is a 400-acre facility located a few miles south of Rockford, Illinois. Its camp facilities include a central dining hall, outdoor pool, showers, craft building, health center, hiking trails, covered wagons, Adirondacks, and platform tents.
