When I Grow Up I Want to be a President! Or a Patch Editor

As the presidential candidates continue to criss-cross the country seeking the nomination, with stops in Illinois this week, it got me thinking — did they want to be president when they grew up?

Did a young Mitt envision himself in the Oval Office? Did a 7-year-old Rick Santorum believe he would set the conservative moral tone for the country? What do you think Newt dreamed of being when he was young?

You ask a 5-year-old and they'll say something different every time. They want to be president, a firefighter, an astronaut or pitch for the Cubs. Or even a ballerina.

When I was young, I was the same way. I wanted to be a teacher, or a gymnast, or a stewardess or a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. Strangely enough, none of those actually happened.

But in about fifth grade, I started keeping a journal. I wrote stories and poems and lots of rambling thoughts about the future. That is when I decided I wanted to be a writer. So sometimes, the childhood dreams come true.

Of course, I envisioned myself being more along the lines of a J.K. Rowling making millions for my popular worldwide bestselling novels, but an editor for Patch is a close second.
