"Special" Needs Extra Special Care

Cat hit by a car needs to find an extra special home.

On Feb. 20, a young tortie cat whom we've named Special was brought in to Save-A-Pet. Special appeared to have been recently hit by a car. She was sent to Mundelein Animal Hospital where they assessed her and started pain medications.

They found that her jaw is shattered and she possibly has head trauma so they were not comfortable leaving her unsupervised overnight. Special is blind as of right now, and may or may not have neurological effects from the head trauma, if any.

We sent her to AETC for IV pain meds and monitoring Sunday night and she was transferred to Dr. Stapleton in Barrington earlier Monday ay to surgically repair her jaw.

They could not complete all the surgery so she is now staying overnight at Barrington for surgery on Friday. She is resting comfortably and is on pain meds and antibiotics. As her jaw is shattered, once her surgery is complete she will need to be fed and medicated through a feeding tube.

We have found a foster experienced in tube feeding/medicating who will take her for recovery. Special still needs surgery, and has already spent two nights at vet offices, however, so the costs of her care can be pretty high.

I know we’ve asked for help covering costs before for other cats so don’t want to sound like we are asking for too much. But there may be a "special" someone out there who is willing and able to provide the special care that Special needs. It would be greatly appreciated.

Special is about 5 years old.
