Love Triangle Mom-Head Stabbing on Mother’s Day?

JOLIET, IL — A Wilmington woman told of watching her mom get stabbed in the head on Mother’s Day, and seeing her fiance suffer a knife wound so serious he ended up in a five-hour life-saving surgery, according to a court filing.

The 21-year-old woman, her mom and her fiance were out at a Wilmington bar celebrating Mother’s Day early Sunday morning when another woman showed up and said her ex-boyfriend was looking to fight her lover, according to a petition for a protective order.

The ex-boyfriend — who was clad all in black and hiding in an alley — emerged from the shadows to confront the fiance after he left the bar, the petition said.

The woman and her mother went outside and saw the two men fighting. The ex-boyfriend then “pulled out a knife and stabbed my mother on the top of her head and slit (the fiance’s) forearm (from) the wrist about halfway up his forearm,” the petition said.

The 21-year-old fiance, a West Chicago resident, and the 41-year-old mother, who is from Braidwood, were both taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, police said.

“My mother was released after they stapled her head back together,” the woman said in her petition. “My fiance … is still in the hospital. He had a five-hour surgery to connect his tendons and nerves and arteries. The doctor said it was a life-threatening and devastating surgery.”

The man who the woman identified as the stabber, a 20-year-old from Wilmington, fled when the law arrived, police said, “but was apprehended a short time later.”

Officers reportedly found a knife nearby.

No charges have been filed so far in connection with the incident, police said.
