Dear Lemont Community,
Find out what's happening in Lemontfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
On behalf of the Warrior Booster Club I would like to thank all the community members who came out in March to support our club and our students during our two annual fundraising events: game and March Madness Night. Our club was able to raise more than $8,000 during these events that will help provide scholarships for needy students and reduce the fees for activities for all families.
Keeping our students active and involved in their school is our major goal, and we appreciate the support we received from so many in the community to help make this happen.
On Saturday, March 10, members of the OQ basketball teams took on many members of the community in a charity basketball game dubbed: OQ vs. the Village People. Thanks goes to the OQ Band, Dance Team and cheerleaders who performed during the game and to OQ Student Council, and members of the OQ National Junior Honor Society who worked the event. Special thanks to Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy and Fire Protection Chief Carl Churulo for coaching the Village People team, and Dennis Kennedy and Jack Williams for coaching the OQ team. Also, thanks to the members of the Village People team that included Lemont Fire Fighters, OQ teachers, village employees and trustees.
A very special thanks goes out our game sponsor, Citgo for its $1,000 contribution, and Kohl’s Cares employees for donating their time and earning our club $500.
We also want to thank Dr. Bill Caron and Dennis Kennedy from OQ for the use of the school gymnasium and their support. Thanks goes to our announcer Greg Schwem, our volunteer referees Dean Kornacker and Zach Sabourin, and to OQ student Amber Miller for singing the National Anthem.
Lastly, a huge thank you to the event co-chairs John and Dawn Faye for their tireless efforts to make the night a success.
Our second fundraiser was our March Madness Night held at . More than 120 people came out to watch NCAA tournament games and support the WBC. We would like to thank everyone who attended and joined in the "madness" with us. We also thank the Cantina for hosting this event.
Event co-chairs Jack and Barb Williams did a wonderful job of organizing and promoting the event. WBC thanks all who worked the event and also those families and businesses that donated items for our raffle and silent auction.
Finally, I would like to take time to thank our WBC Board of Directors this year. They have dedicated many hours and resources to make our club a success, and I sincerely appreciate their time and efforts. The 2011-12 Board includes: Vice President Dan Banas, Secretary Laura Biggs, Treasurer Barb Williams, Ed Kramer, Brenda Douglass, Theresa Thompson, Suzanne Smiles and Michelle Tauer.
Sincerely,
Amy Kramer
President, Warrior Booster Club
