VIDEO: Lemont Students, Teachers Compete in 6th Annual 'Faculty Idol' Contest

Math teacher Ashley Good and her group, the Young Bucks, were named the winners Friday after performing "Stairway to Heaven" and "All Along the Watchtower."

A show-stopping flash mob and covers of Led Zeppelin, the Black Keys and Jimi Hendrix were among the highlights Friday night at  annual talent competition, 

The event was organized by the school's Speech team for the sixth straight year, and featured nine groups of faculty members and students. This year, the event lost the backing track, eliminated karaoke and prominently featured instruments and voices.

This year's Faculty Idol was Math teacher Ashley Good, whose group, the Young Bucks, performed "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin and "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix. She was joined by Connor Tomaka on bass, Elijah DeLosreyes on guitar, Ed O'Malley on drums and Mr. Ferry on guitar.

Coming in second was English teacher Phil Lazzari and his group, Active Voice, who performed "Tighten Up" by the Black Keys.

Faculty Idol was emceed by science teacher Scott Collins, who played the role of Ryan Seacrest. He was assisted by seniors Kevin Driscoll and Rhiannon Lindgren.

Judging the competition were Fine Arts chair David Nommensen as Randy Jackson, English teacher Marek Dron as Steven Tyler and Spanish teacher Christie Klingsporn as Jennifer Lopez.

All proceeds from the event will benefit students attending speech camp this summer.

Lemont’s speech program won its third straight South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title earlier this year, and also was second at the IHSA Sandburg Regional, where it had five first-place finishes.
