Intruder Shot, Victim Injured In Lake County Home Invasion: Sheriff

A 47-year-old man faces charges following the home invasion Thursday in Beach Park.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 47-year-old man faces charges following a home invasion in Lake County last week after police say he was shot by his victim, before he got hold of the gun and pistol-whipped the victim.

Brian Wisch is accused of breaking into the home of a former neighbor in the 38200 block of Sheridan Road in Beach Park at about 8:05 p.m. on Thursday and demanding money from him, according to police.

Wisch was armed with a gun, and got several hundred dollars, according to police. He then is accused of hitting the homeowner, a 67-year-old man, in the face and body with a pistol before fleeing, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found Wisch a day later at a business in Wadsworth. They learned he had a gunshot wound to the stomach, which he sustained after the victim retrieved a gun from his house during the home invasion and shot Wisch, police said.

Wisch then fought the victim, got his gun away from him and hit him several times in the face and body with his own gun, according to the news release. Wisch then fled on foot, and detectives recovered both firearms.

Wisch has been charged with three counts of home invasion, two counts of armed robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Detectives searched the Beach Park home and found nearly two pounds of cocaine and around $500,000. They learned the man was selling drugs out of his home.

Drug-related charges against the Beach Park man are likely in the future, police said.
