Letters to the Editors: Elect Price, Tyle, Bradshaw to District 204 Board of Education

We will print letters to the editor that are 300 words or less.

School District 204 has a great opportunity …  To elect Lori Price to the Board of Education

I met my friend three years ago at a Special Needs PTA meeting.  Immediately, I was impressed by her leadership, organization and professionalism in running the meetings.  So impressed, actually,  that I made the decision to become more involved in that organization.  I have since come to realize how  truly dedicated to advocating for ALL children Lori is.

Lori accompanied me last year to local rallies protesting proposed budget cuts that were to affect Education and Human Services.  She then organized the Caravan to the Capital, and filled bus loads of District 204 parents and students who traveled to Springfield, where she arranged for us to meet with all of our local representatives as well as the House Minority Leader to discuss our strong opposition to these proposed cuts.

In addition to various committees she is involved with,  Lori regularly attends School Board meetings, Indian Prairie Parents Council meetings, Special Needs PTA meetings as well as her children’s two schools’ PTA meetings.  I honestly know of no other person (staff or parent) who tracks the pulse of District 204 as thoroughly as Lori.  I truly believe that Lori has no “hidden agenda” in this regard.  She simply works tirelessly to bring out the best in our District.

In recent weeks, I've seen a change in Lori.  I've watched as she has immersed herself in her campaign. Her phone does not stop ringing.  The e-mails are endless. And Lori is truly joyful. Just the other day she told me "The more I learn about 204, the more excited I am. I really want to be a part of all this.  Do you realize just how much goes into curriculum planning......"

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a “strong advocate” for my own children. As I see it, my job is to ensure the very best for them.  In that vein, not only do I believe that she would make a great addition to our School Board, I believe that District 204 will be better because of having Lori Price in a leadership position.

Sincerely,
Karyn Borden

Do Your Research Before Voting

Please take the time to learn about the candidates in the upcoming local election and vote!  Election day is April 5.  While there are not many races on our ballots this time around, your vote really does count and the outcome does make a difference.

The best choices for Indian Prairie District 204 Board of Education this year are Curt Bradshaw, Alka Tyle, and Lori Price.  I have known all three for several years and I have seen their tireless work for the district first hand.

and are incumbents who each bring very different perspectives and experiences to the board and can stand by impressive and measurable results – see http://board.ipsd.org/Pages/Goals.aspx.

has served the district already in many capacities.  I have repeatedly witnessed her passion for and commitment to 204 students.  She has developed positive working relationships with the school board and administration as well as parents and teachers throughout the district plus local and state legislators.  I know that Lori will make an excellent addition to the board.

I advise you to check the candidates’ websites for greater detail about their district involvement and qualifications, and watch one of the candidate forums at 204tv.org.
