Absentee District 211 Board Member Resigns
Lauanna Recker submitted her resignation letter Wednesday. She had attended only half of the board's meeting since her election in 2015.

PALATINE, IL — A Township High School District 211 board member who faced criticism over her lack of attendance at meetings since her election in April of 2015 has resigned her seat. According to a district spokesman, Lauanna Recker emailed her letter of resignation Wednesday, and she cited "recent and significant" family issues as the reason for stepping down, the Daily Herald reports.
The board now has 45 days to appoint a new member to fill Recker's vacant seat. The new member will finish out Recker's term, which ends April 2019. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest Palatine news. And iPhone users: Check out Patch's new app.)
Recker's attendance record at meetings was considered the worst among the seven board members. Of the 38 board of education meetings held since she was elected, Recker was present at only 19 of them, and she had missed seven of the board's eight meetings in 2017, according to a report by the Daily Herald. The last board meeting Recker attended was Jan. 19, the report added.

Until her resignation letter, Recker had not publicly addressed why she had missed so many meetings during her tenure, the report stated. Her fellow board members also didn't feel comfortable talking about the situation, the report added.
