Crackdown On Impaired July 4 Drivers Underway In Palatine: Police

Police will also conduct a Roadside Safety Check beginning the evening of Friday, June 28 through the morning of Saturday, July 29.

PALATINE, IL — The Palatine Police Department announced plans this week for July 4 traffic enforcement as part of a safety campaign happening now through Monday, July 8. According to a release from the Palatine Police Department, enforcement efforts includes a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The police department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check beginning the late evening hours on Friday, June 28, through the early morning hours on Saturday, June 29, in the area of Algonquin and Roselle Roads, according to a release.

“We’re asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence
Day safely,” said the Palatine Police Department, in the release sent to Patch.“It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use drugs. Our officers will be out in full force to keep
impaired drivers off the road.”

The Palatine Police Department joins the Illinois State Police and more than 160 local
police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement
effort, the release said.

“This Fourth of July designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family
members drive under the influence,” said Palatine police, in the release.

Police provided other important tips, including:

  • Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
  • If you are drunk or impaired by marijuana or other drugs, call a taxi, take mass transit, use your favorite ride-sharing service, or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
  • Use your community’s designated driver program (Insert your local program contact information if applicable).
  • Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 911.
  • Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears his or her seat belt. Not only is it the law, it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.
