Gun Shot Victim In Palatine Identified

PALATINE, IL — Authorities have identified the man shot near his home in unincorporated Palatine as Jose L. Castaneda, Jr., 20. He was shot in the back in the apartment complex where he lived. The death has been ruled a homicide.

Castaneda was shot Friday at about 4:18 p.m. at the 1500 block of Norway Lane. He was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said.

He lived at 1500 block of Silver Lane, which is in the same apartment complex where the shooting happened, authorities said.

A police investigation is ongoing.
