PALATINE, IL — Over the years, Labor Day has become one of those American holidays that has accumulated its share of official and unofficial roles. Officially, the first Monday in September honors the U.S. workforce. Unofficially, the day marks the end of the summer and the wearing of white for non-brides and anyone who thinks forward-thinking has no place in the fashion world.
Another official part of Labor Day is that, as a federal holiday, it means many people will have the day off, and a variety of places will be closed. Here's a look at how Labor Day will affect institutions and services around Palatine:

Schools: No classes for District 15 and District 211 schools.
Palatine Village Government: The Village Hall will be closed, and state and federal government offices will be closed, too.

Palatine Public Library: The library will be closed.
Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.
Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.
Trash Pickup: Garbage collection service will be delayed until the next day because of the holiday.
CTA and Metra: Trains and buses for the transportation agencies will be running on Sunday/holiday schedules.
