Palatine Man Wanted For DUI Dies After Crash: Police

According to news report, Javier Gaspar-Garcia had a blood alcohol content five-times the legal limit while he was driving on Feb. 5.

PALATINE, IL — A 41-year-old Palatine man wanted out of Cook County on a DUI warrant died Thursday, Feb. 7 after being critically injured two days earlier in a two-vehicle crash in Palatine, the Daily Herald said according to a release from Palatine police. According to the Daily Herald, the police report said on Tuesday, Feb. 5 Javier Gaspar-Garcia had a blood alcohol content five-times the legal limit while driving a 2006 Nissan Altima with three family members in the car. Police said Gaspar-Garcia, whose driving privileges had been revoked due to a previous DUI conviction, was headed west on East Dundee Road when he attempted to turn left into a retail parking lot, and hit a 2018 Lexus X300 driving the opposite way, according to the Daily Herald.

Gaspar-Garcia, who police said wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. According to police, his passengers - a 22-year-old woman, 5-year-old girl, and 4-year-old girl, were all wearing their seat belts and were taken to the hospital, but have been released, the Daily Herald said. The person driving the Lexus wasn't injured.

According to the news report, police said Gaspar-Garcia had been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to yield turning left and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
