'The Sweetest Little Boy': DCFS Looks Into Palatine Boy's Death

The cause and manner of the boy's death are pending following an autopsy, a spokesperson with the Cook Co. Medical Examiner's office said.

PALATINE, IL — Authorities in Palatine continue to investigate the death of 2-year-old boy who died after being rushed to a nearby hospital on Thursday night, police said. As of Tuesday morning, the cause and manner of his death are still pending following an autopsy, a spokesperson with the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said in a statement to Patch.

"He was the sweetest little boy with an incredible personality," Kara Witkowski, the child's mother, said in a statement to Patch. Witkowski said her son had the ability to "make anyone smile."

"He really enjoyed playing with his sister, dancing and singing," Witkowski told Patch. He also loved the song "Baby Shark," and was "Highly adventurous and increasingly curious," Witkowski added.

Police responded at about 9:50 p.m. Halloween to the 1300 block of East Evergreen Drive in Palatine for a medical emergency, according to a news release from the Palatine Police Department.

The boy was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

According to the Sun-Times, the Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating the toddler's death, a spokesperson said.

Authorities said foul play is not suspected and no persons of interest are in custody.
