Rock N' Roll A' La Mode Takes a Family Approach

The 50's themed restaurant in downtown Palatine has a strong focus on family fun.

Rock N' Roll A La Mode, 45 N. Bothwell Street in Palatine has become one of the few spots in the downtown area that has a strong focus on family fun.

"I have three small children of my own, and I recognize the importance of having a place where kids can come and enjoy themselves," said owner Dan Benson, who lives nearby in Barrington.

Benson purchased the business a few months ago, and has since created a number of events and activities that would appeal to parents with children in and around Palatine.

They include a visit from a different Disney princess each Friday in August. This Friday, August 9, Princess Aurora – otherwise known as Sleeping Beauty – will grace the restaurant while she sings, reads and signs autographs for children.

The first and third Mondays of each month, a free children's karaoke event is featured, in addition to 'Daddy Daughter Date Nights' on Tuesday nights and the equivalent for Mothers and Sons on Wednesday nights.

During both 'date nights', a movie is played on the big screen television and children eat for free.

The 50's themed restaurant has a menu full of creatively-styled hot dogs, pulled pork on garlic bread, nachos, chili, spicy and regular chicken sandwiches and a special menu for kids.

Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream is featured in dozens of interesting flavors, and is served in cups, waffle and regular cones, as well as in malts and shakes.

A huge candy wall, and Ice Cream Collection Chocolates from Anna Shea Chocolate of South Barrington also are on sale to further satisfy that sweet tooth.
