The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone about working smoke detectors after a fire that damaged several units at a Palatine complex.
PALATINE, IL — The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone that working smoke alarms save lives after people inside a condo and town home complex at 1270 N. Sterling Avenue were able to evacuate when a fire broke out Tuesday. According to a release from the fire department, crews responded to a report of the fire at 3:10 p.m., and were told when they got to the building that there was a fire in one of the units. Fire department crews got inside the unit and found light some and a small fire in the bathroom, and put it out before opening the ceiling to check for extended flames, and found fire between the first and second floors, according to the news release.
Fire crews used a hose line to put the flames out in this void space, in addition to flames found in the plumbing wall before the fire was under control at 3:39 p.m. The scene was then investigated, according to the release.
No one, including fire crews, were injured in the fire, however four units were left uninhabitable from damage caused by the fire in the wall space between units, the department said.
