Smoking Materials Cause Of Condo Fire: Police

No one was injured in Saturday's condo fire that authorities said was started by the improper disposal of smoking materials.

PALATINE, IL — Smoking materials that were not thrown away properly caused a fire that destroyed a third-floor condo unit Saturday and damaged one beneath it, Palatine fire officials said. No one was injured in the fire.

Authorities said that a fire alarm went off just before 9 a.m. at the condo at the 1000 block of North Bayside Drive. Smoke was seen billowing from the third floor balcony, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Palatine and Arlington Heights firefighters put out the blaze by 9:12 a.m., the Sun-Times said. All residents were evacuated and there were no injuries.
