Starbucks To Open Drive-Through-Only Shop In Palatine

The Lake Cook Road location near Grossinger Hyundai is set to open this spring.

PALATINE, IL — Northeast Illinois is becoming a favorite spot for Starbucks to roll out new concepts. Last year, the Seattle-based coffee chain announced it was opening its largest shop — a four-story, 43,000-square-foot Starbucks Reserve Roastery — along Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago in 2019. Now, Palatine will be the location for one of the company's drive-through-only outlets.

The 800-square-foot Starbucks will be on Lake Cook Road, east of North Rand Road, near Grossinger Hyundai, according to the Daily Herald. Around 12 workers will be employed at the new shop, and it's set to begin serving lattes, blonde cappuccinos, iced cinnamon almondmilk macchiatos and simple black coffees this spring, the report added.

Starbucks has one other drive-through-only location in the Chicago area. A similar shop is at 201 W. Roosevelt Road in Lombard, according to the Herald.

Customers won't have access inside the location, and all business will be done through the shop's drive-through window, the report stated. Starbucks introduced these types of outlets — buildings around 1,000 square feet or less that are usually made from shipping containers or prefabricated materials —in 2013, and the company has been rolling them out around the country, the report added.

This new shop is on one of two lots commercially zoned and designed to spark redevelopment, the report stated. The location had been earmarked for a Dunkin' Donuts outlet in 2015, the Herald reports.
