Teen Sentenced To 5 Years In February 2019 Palatine Murder
The teen pleaded guilty this year to the murder of Jose Castaneda, Jr., 20, who was shot while walking in the 1500 block of Norway Lane.
PALATINE, IL — A Palatine teen was sentenced Tuesday to five years in a juvenile detention facility in the Feb. 1 gang-related fatal shooting of a Palatine man, the Daily Herald reported. The 15-year-old pleaded guilty to murder in February for the death of 20-year-old Jose L. Castaneda, Jr., who was shot in the back while walking in the 1500 block of Norway Lane with a friend in unincorporated Palatine, the news report said.
The teen's co-defendant Andre Naydenov, 16, of Palatine, is also charged in the murder and is being held in juvenile detention on $750,000 bail while his case is pending in adult court.

According to authorities, Naydenov was driving with the defendant in the passenger seat when they stopped at the gas station near the Silver Lakes Apartment Complex, around the same time Castaneda and his friend walked up. According to the teen's probation officer, the teen thought Castaneda's friend had shot at a friend of his, the news report said. Once Castaneda and his friend walked away from the gas station, Naydenov drove in their direction while the teen fired several shots, according to the news report. >> More on the Tuesday sentencing via the Daily Herald
