Teens Charged With Murder In Palatine Township Shooting: Sheriff
Two teens have been charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 1 Norway Lane death of a man who the sheriff's office said lived nearby.

COOK COUNTY, IL — Two teens have been charged with murder in the Feb. 1 shooting death of a young man in unincorporated Palatine, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Monday. Police detectives from the Cook County Sheriff's Office identified 16-year-old Andre Naydenov and a 15-year-old boy as the two accused in the murder of 20-year-old Jose Castaneda. The Sheriff's Department said police responded to a call reporting shots fired at 4:18 p.m., Feb. 1 in the 1500 block of Norway Lane, and found an unresponsive man, later identified as Castaneda, had been shot.
According to the sheriff's office, Castaneda had lived nearby and was taken to Northwest Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
During their investigation, sheriff’s police detectives identified the two offenders. The sheriff's office said Naydenov was taken into custody on Feb. 6, and upon further investigation was charged as an adult with first-degree murder. On Feb. 7, his bond was set at $750,000 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse, the sheriff's office added.

On Feb. 9, the 15-year-old was taken into custody and after further investigation was charged with first-degree murder, the sheriff's office said. However, his name isn't being released because he is being charged as a juvenile.
